[Movie] Warcraft (BLURAY)

In addition to the World of Warcraft digital content, Blizzard is also using the movie release to promote a few of its other games. Here are the full contents of the physical editions that include game unlocks:

Although Warcraft may not have been the breakout movie of the summer, it was certainly far from a failure and managed to become the highest-grossing video game movie of all time. That record will likely be broken by Assassin's Creed when it releases at the end of the year and it will be very exciting to continue watching the new class of video game movies evolve.

[Movie] Warcraft (BLURAY)

Warcraft movie fans in the United States and Canada can now get hands on the Blu-Ray or DVD version of the movie that also includes digital bonus goodies for some of Blizzard's other games if the physical version is purchased. Players will receive a Medivh hero in Heathstone, Gul'Dan in Heroes of the Storm and a digital copy of World of Warcraft with 30-days subscription time.

A chunk of this movie is all digital. The attempt at hyper real, motion captured CG fills the running time, near to the level of a Robert Zemeckis production. This means stunning, gorgeous texture rushing to the screen unimpeded by any real world quirks. Pristine lighting draws additional sharpness and clarity, capturing Orc skin with spectacular fidelity.

Warcraft, (also known as Warcraft: The Beginning), is a movie directed by Duncan Jones, produced by Legendary Pictures, and distributed by Universal Pictures. It began filming at the beginning of 2014, and was released on May 30, 2016 in the UK and on June 10, 2016 in the United States. AMC and IMAX ran a promotion that allowed US moviegoers to see the movie early on June 8, 2016 at select AMC/IMAX 3D theaters.[4] However, the world premiere was in Paris on the night of May 24, 2016.[5][6][7]

As of late June 2016, the movie had made over $400 million worldwide.[9] China led all markets by a large margin by bringing in over $200 million by themselves.[9] The US was second at $44 million.[10] Russia, Germany, and France followed with $21.6 million, $13.8 million, and $10.9 million respectively.[9] South Korea led all other Asian countries at $8.4 million while Brazil led all South American countries at $5.6 million.[9] Africa did not do that much, but in the Middle East, UAE registered around $2.3 million.[9]

The movie had largely run its course as of mid-July 2016 with the last major country release in Japan on July 1, 2016,[11] but had made over $430 million worldwide.[2] China did most of the heavy lifting with $220 million.[3]

For those who purchased the movie on DVD or Blu-ray, some received the Medivh hero for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, the Gul'dan hero for Heroes of the Storm, and a free digital copy of World of Warcraft[18] for a limited time. There was a serious problem, however, where many physical copies had a sticker promising bonus items, but no codes or inserts were in the product when opened. Blizzard claimed it was the manufacturer's responsibility[19] and many retail stores were clueless or unhelpful.[20]

In a May 9, 2006 press release, Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures (makers of Batman Begins and 300) announced that they would develop a live-action film set in the Warcraft universe.[22] Legendary Pictures acquired the movie rights for the game universe, and both companies were focused on translating the Warcraft experience to the big screen. Uwe Boll attempted to apply for the job of director, to which Blizzard CEO Paul Sams replied "We will not sell the movie rights, not to you... especially not to you."[23] At BlizzCon 2008, according to Mike Morhaime, a script was being written.[24] Chris Metzen mentioned that the film would be action-packed and violent, stating "We're definitely not going to make a G or a PG version of this. It's not PillowfightCraft."[25]

The live-action film was set for release in 2009,[25] but was later rescheduled to 2011.[26] On July 22, 2009, Blizzard Entertainment announced that Sam Raimi would become the Warcraft movie director, but in July 2012 he told Crave Online that he would not direct due to committing to the movie Oz: The Great and Powerful.[27]

As of early 2012, the movie had still not entered production. At ComicCon 2011, Chris Metzen said the movie was not dead, but gave few useful details, saying it was still in the "treatment stage".[28] In mid-March 2012, Nethaera said the movie was "still on the radar" with no other update.[29]

It was initially announced the movie would release on December 18, 2015.[35] However, the next installment of the Star Wars franchise was scheduled for late 2015, so it prompted the studio to move the Warcraft film release to March 16, 2016.[36]

In early February 2016, Universal UK, the UK distributor, announced the UK release date for the movie would move up to May 30th, 2016.[43] No reasons were given, but some speculated it was to coincide with the Spring Bank holiday which fell on May 30th.[44]

Reception of the film by professional critics was largely negative, with most reviews being below average. As of the worldwide premiere on May 25, 2016, Metacritic gave the movie 32/100[55] and Rotten Tomatoes gave it 38%,[56] but with less than 10 reviews counted at that point. After the US premiere, Metacritic had declined slightly to 31/100[57] and Rotten Tomatoes had declined dramatically to 18%.[58] Despite being a critical failure (primarily in the US and UK), regular viewers generally responded more positively in international markets by propelling it to number 1 for its opening weekend in 19 of 20 overseas markets.[59] It appeared to be very popular in China by setting pre-sales records and setting the record for widest release ever of any movie, beating the previous champion, Furious 7.[60]

It is important to note that while the movie's reception by critics has been abysmal in the United States, the user reviews after the first weekend (8.5+/10 on Metacritic[61] and 80%+ on Rotten Tomatoes)[62] have been generally good. As such, the critics do not seem to be representing the users.

So it's like you pay twenty something bucks for a Medivh skin which comes with a free Disney fairy tale about digital orks and knights in plastic armour.Hope you're kidding as those armor and weapons are made up of real metal and are heavy. Also the movie is quite good despite the critics hating it early on.

Please can you also update me with future movies that are DTS X coded.Awaiting for the Onkyo TXRZ810 to be delivered on the 3rd of June.this has been 30years listening to surround sound and as a vinyl and valves crackpot nothing has ever came close for audio pleasure.Surround sound always ripped my head off, even a demo of a 125,000 Linn bridged system.Surley DTS X is the answer for my surround sound headache for now?How many different picture with sound formats will the consumer put up with until they get it right.

My Yamaha receiver, RX-V671, has the height channel inputs and I added speakers to it.,The firmware was updated in November of this year. They are not Atmos speakers and it sounds great with the new Transformer movie. But my receiver is not Atmos or DTS X rated. Does the firmware make a difference?

Steve, this is Art. I have seen 5-6 DTS-X movies now on my Yamaha Rxa-3050 and I think you hit the nail on the head. Crimson Peak has the most noticeable overhead sound. The bathtub scene had great emersion. Wind and weather was all encompassing too. Thanks.

I do wonder, however, about the releases with DTS Headphone:X tracks. How to find info on these? I know Ex Machina is released with this track, but how about others? There is a DTS demo track volume 20 that features a lot of demo tracks from movies, does this mean all those movies come with DTS Headphone:X track or will?

Hi. I am paul, avid movie person. Own over 20,000 dvd/blurays. Recently got LG 4k bluray player UP875 model . And mentioned it plays everything, including ATMOS -even DTS-HD and DTS- BUT NOT DTS:X. I even wrote to LG and LG stated it does not play the the DTS:X. BUT CNET article I perused, stated if a bluray player can play DTS and DTS-HD, no problem, that it sounds like the LG player would play the DTS:X movies anyway. Would you agree? Would the LG UP875 play and have same DTS:X sound then??If not, I do still retain the SONY bluray player which plays both ATMOS and DTS:X, as does my Yamaha receiver has both DTS:X and ATMOS.My email is: wellendowedPAUL@yahoo.com.So would you say that the LG UP875 will, should, play and hear the DTS:X track still??Thank you.-paul, 28november2017-Tuesday

Finding Dory started its international run in first place with $50.0 million in 29 markets. Its biggest market was China, where it earned second place with 18.15 million over the weekend and $18.18 million including previews. This is not a lot of money compared to last week's winner; however, China is not a market that is kind to animated films. Before this year, no animated movie had earned more than $100 million in China and the current record is held by Zootopia at $235.77 million. Zootopia only made $23.99 million during its opening weekend in China, so this isn't a bad start for Finding Dory. Additionally, Finding Dory doubled Zootopia's opening in Australia with $7.63 million on 524 screens. It also performed very well in Argentina ($3.5 million) and in Russia ($3.25 million on 1,220 screens). It is still too early to tell if Finding Dory will top $1 billion worldwide, but this start gives box office watchers a reason to be optimistic.
